"Manager offered me another patrons possessions"

La Quinta ? New Orleans ? French Quarter. Camp St.
Manager on duty: Nelly
We stayed the night before a cruise out of the port right down the street.
I left my cell phone charger on the night stand next to the bed.
I called within an hour of leaving the hotel, in the cruise terminal parking garage to report to the check in counter girl that I had left my Black Verizon cell phone charger back I the room.
She told me that housekeeping would lock it up and I could get it when I returned in 6 days.
I returned to the hotel immediately upon leaving the cruise terminal parking garage (again right down the street).
Nelly ? the manager on duty ? was at the desk when I arrived and I explained what the counter girl told me the previous Monday morning when I called and reported that I had left my Black Verizon charger. Nelly started picking up the charger on the counter in front of her (a white Apple iPhone charger) and the counter girl told her ?no that?s mine?.
Nelly continue to look around the desk; I stated again that I was told it would be locked up ? that they lock up items left behind until claimed.
Nelly stated ?they do, I was just checking down here first?.
On the front desk, not locked up !?!?!?
She left and went upstairs ???
I asked the girl after Nelly had been gone a while and she asked me to have a seat? ?Did she go to check the room?? She told me no but she went to go look.
Nelly returned with one white apple charger with someone?s initials written in black perm marker on the side, and one strange black one that was rather large.
She said she could not find mine, and that someone must have taken it, but that she wanted to offer me one of the two she was holding.
I said really? I was told any items are bagged and placed in a locked storage location.
These are not bagged. And the ?someone? who took mine is a hotel employee because it was left sitting on the table next to the bed in the wide open.
I explained further to her that her offering me another patrons possession is offering me the opportunity to steal from another patron. Moral and ethics are not part of her character.
Do I want to support a brand or franchise that operates with indecent and unashamed behavior?
No. But I do want the world to know how when I questioned her of this option she provided me she honestly saw no issue with it, told me to have a good day and turned around and walked back behind the counter.
This occurred in the lobby with other patrons waiting around.
I was not loud, I was not rude. I should have been, to draw more attention to the situation I was presented with.
Sub-par was how I described the hotel ? accommodations ? staff ? prior to my experience this morning trying to retrieve a personal item left behind.
The item can be replaced.
My loyalty to La Quinta will never be.
I hope this locations management and staff is.
No coffee in the am what a way to start the day not sure if the machine wasn't wrking. Shower curtain was so nasty I dare not bath or shower in the tub. Toliet backed backed up from next door. Loud noise. Sheets were for queen I was in a twin. I cd go on but no more room. Never asked how my stay was just walked away. Now I know why they don't ask.
First the good news: the location is gr8 (2 blocks to the French Quarter), the rooms are huge, & the staff is friendly. Bad news: Housekeeping starts at 9am, & if you'd rather sleep in, they usually won't come back later. In our 5-day stay, we got housekeeping only once. If you don't want early housekeeping, request an upper-floor room (there are 15 floors) because lower floors get cleaned first, & the view up high is better anyway. The water never gets really hot, only warm, so 4get about hot showers or baths. When we complained, they said they had no other complaints about that, but we heard others in the elevator complain about the same thing, & the problem was never fixed. There were 2 fire drills in the 5 days we were there, which seems excessive, & both drills were a pain. There are nice big flatscreen TVs in all rooms, but the channel selection sucks (very limited basic cable). No HBO. No AMC, no MadMen. No local New Orleans channels, not even news or weather. And the TV frequently didn't work, there was a "Channel Unavailable" message on ALL channels at least half the times we turned on the TV. The free WiFi signal was so weak, it was useless. The Bad News items outnumber the Good News items, but the Good News items are more important, especially the gr8 location. So all things considered, we'd stay here again, but we go to New Orleans often, & next time we'll try someplace else, since LaQuinta is far from perfect.
We stayed three days at the Downtown La Quinta on Camp Street and the experience was great. Super location, great staff and 3-4 blocks from Bourbon Street and about 5 blocks to the Riverfront. Pet friendly downtown hotel. No unexpected charges on checkout. We'll be back when we return to NO.
Hotel Staff very courteous. Valet was nice as we did not need our vehicle for any of our stay there. You can get to most places without driving and taxes are cheap. Hotel was nice though there was one elevator out of service when we were there and was slightly inconvenient. We stayed in a smoking room there was no fan and ac did not keep room cool. The thermostat restricted temp setting below 65 deg. Normally that would not be a issue but our room was not at 65deg more like 70 ac would only run for a min or two then shut off. The ac did however put out cold air we had to cover the thermostat to trick it into thinking the room was warmer. I would recommend this hotel though price was fair considering the location. We enjoyed our stay New Orleans during French Quarter Fest.
