"The Perfect Hotel in the Los Angeles area"
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We travel with our Greyhounds and we always stay at La Quinta because they treat your pets with the same respect they treat every guest animal or human. The Hotel is very comfortable and the facilities are not only priced well but well maintained and quiet. The los Angeles area is very large and we find that the La Palma location is easy to access from the freeway and close to Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland. We always stay at La Quinta when we travel because we can be sure to find the hotel clean well managed and accomodating. Gary & Katrina Davalos

"Business"

Staying in a newly renovated room. They have pets here so be sure if you are allergic to ask for a pet free room. This past weekend I was shocked that marijuana was making it's way through the halls on my floor. When I peeked my head outside my door the cleaning staff seemed oblivious. I was informed later that since medical marijuana is legal so here hotels in the area are tolerant. I just figured I was on the "party" floor. They also have two washers and dryers which is great and they only cost $1.00, Nothing fancy but it cleans your clothers which is important and you are not breaking the bank. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. For the price it appears to be a good deal. My comapny went really cheap on me. There is breakfast as mentioned by a previous reviewed however, I was not the least bit interested. I was spoiled by the Embassy Suites breakfast so I passed. I'd rather go to Marie Callenders across the street or Jack in the box.

"Housekeeping & renovations"
3 of 5 stars Reviewed Apr 8, 2013
Raven S | Sacramento, California, United States
I had the misfortune of having to stay in this hotel for 11 days. First housekeeping completely missed us one day, and since we had our dog with us, one of us had stay in the room until housekeeping arrived and completed their task. Our dog was always crated if we were expecting housekeeping, but nonetheless if she barked, housekeeping wouldn't enter the room. At first, it seemed the were arriving at random, so I requested they get our room done before 11am, as I had stuff to do. They managed maybe three times to get it done before 11. Normally it was closer to noon. Most of the housekeeping speak Spanish only, so telling them what needed doing was a frustrating experience. On top of all of this, they were renovating. This means lots of loud noise. For the last three days we were there. I had a migraine for the last 3 days. We chose this hotel originally because we had to bring the pup with us, and La Quinta is the only one in the area that is dog friendly. Next time, we will board her. Also, I'd gotten the feeling that the front desk staff didn't want to be bothered with the exception of one staff member. The others seem to tell you whatever will shut you up and send you on your way. By the end of our trip, I was glad to be on our way home. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Not Good for Extended Stays"
2 of 5 stars Reviewed Apr 8, 2013

I had the misfortune of staying at this location for a 12 night stay for work. If I had been paying for it myself instead of my company paying for it I would have switched hotels--even with it being Spring Break and having to pay more--it was just that bad. The only reason I gave it a two circle rating instead of one was the front desk staff tried, and I felt they deserved some credit for that. The first room I stayed in had a wall unit heating/air conditioning unit that made noise but had no air coming out of it. The maintenance man had to pull the unit apart and found the fan was blocked by some large pieces of debris, leading me to wonder how long it had been that way. I always do a check of the mattresses for bedbugs and found that one of the mattresses had a blood stain on it, while the other had a coffee stain at the head of it. As I put the mattress pad and sheet back over the stain I noticed both of them were stained in the exact same place, so it appears the bed hadn't been stripped when the last guest left. Added to that, one of the dresser drawers was broken and the bathtub leaked among a host of other issues. They were completely booked due to Spring Break and renovations that had at least one floor out of commission, so I was stuck. I spoke to a manager the next day, who did discount my stay and had the staff move my belongings to another unit the next day, so I thought all would be well. I was wrong. Although this unit seemed to be in better shape and the mattresses weren't stained, I was now stuck with a heating/air unit with a fan that wouldn't shut off automatically. For THREE days in a row I registered a complaint about it, and each time their solution was to turn the unit off completely, leaving me with no heat or air. Adding to the problem, I was told there are two managers whose hours are both 9-5, and neither of them was working on the weekends. Maintenance an housekeeping are gone by about 8 at night, so the only one to try to deal with evening maintenance and housekeeping issues is the poor person at the front desk. I was working late each evening, but I happened to catch a maintenance person as he was going to another unit and dragged him in so I could see what steps they had been taking. He tried to do the turning the unit off thing first, and when I wasn't falling for it he finally took the (new looking) unit apart and said it had been hooked up wrong from the start and it was beyond their repair capabilities. I was finally moved to a unit that had a fully functioning HVAC unit; there were still many little issues that should be, in all fairness, addressed by their renovation. The housekeeping was so indifferent that I just kept the "Do not disturb" tag on my door for the rest of my trip since it didn't seem worth the bother of them coming in to do a half-hearted job. I've stayed in many hotels with free breakfasts, and you expect them to be fairly basic, but this is about the most basic you can get: two types of cereal, two types of bagels (with cream cheese "spread"--not cream cheese), mini muffins, mini yogurt, bread, hard boiled eggs, fruit, juices and coffee, and waffles. The milk during the week was served in silver carafes that left it warm, and on weekends they didn't even bother with that--just put the jug of milk out. I'm all for being environmentally conscious, if that's what I thought they were doing, but I highly doubt that's why there were no little containers of cold milk available. I'm hopeful for their sake that the remodel--which I'm not complaining about the noise of since that can't be helped--addresses many of these issues, but the staffing and cleaning issues are a whole separate matter!
