When making my reservation for Friday night with front desk I verified that they had a pool and was informed that they did only to find out after checking in that it was a small kids activity pool which was not really ideal for an adult who wants to swim and do arobic exercises in. I was not informed that to use the water activity center you would have to pay an additional 14 dollars per person when they quoted me my room rate of 130.00 dollars. This seems a little steep and even if if I had been traveling with children would not of done this. This fee should be mentioned upfront . It is not listed on the web site or when you call them directly. Our room refrigerator did not work as well and they eventually replaced it with another one that did not work. It took 5 phone calls to get the hotel to agree to replace the 30 dollars to replace the cost of the food I left behind because it was warm. I still am waiting on the check 3 weeks later. I did voice these concerns to Courtney, Jerry and Andrea. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean however the bathroom drains are slow. Breakfast was okay but the cups for juice and coffee are too small. You have too use 3 cups to have a serving of juice or milk. I would not stay at this hotel again.
"If you are starying in the Rapid City area to visit Mt. Rushmore with kids this is a great place to stay."

There are two reasons for this opinion. This La Quinta is attached to a really cool indoor water park where the kids can "relax" after a hard day of looking at the sights. There is also a restaurant attached. It's named Sliders Bar and Grill and as per its name it has a lot of food that kids will probably like including burgers, fries, and pizzas. They also have a reasonable menu of more complete dinners including grilled salmon and ribeyes. You get a discount to both the water park and restaurant at check-in. These features would seem to make this a very family friendly place to stay. That written I can't give it a better rating for several reasons. First, the parking lot is shared with another large motel which also adjoins the water park. Both motels do a heavy business and unless you are very lucky you will have a hard time finding a place to park anywhere near the door, or, for that matter any place to park except in back of the La Quinta. This may not be a problem for people with minimum luggage and no problems with mobility, but if you are older or handicapped this can be a major problem. There are only 3 handicap reserve spaces and in the two days we stayed at this motel I was never able to use one. The rooms are ok, but are on the small side of what I expect at a La Quinta. The maid service is slow so if you want to certain your room is ready if you return say at 3 to take advantage of the water park it would be prudent to ask at the desk for a specific cleaning time before you leave for other activities. I don't know why this is. It may be that because of the water park folks tend to pay a bit more for late check-out which slows the entire operation. The breakfast is the fundamental La Quinta offering that does not include and hot offerings. There are plenty of tables because they use the Sliders dining room, but the food is crowded onto one counter at the narrow end of the dining room which makes it nearly impossible to get at the food in any kind of orderly manner. All La Quinta motels take dogs so this shouldn't really come as a surprise to guests. But this La Quinta is not a very good place for them as there are only limited walking areas and if it rains these turn to mud. The desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room and bath were clean. The rates are reasonable.
We visited this hotel on 6-4-13 and arrived 10 minutes early. We were told by the Desk Clerk, Courtenay, that no rooms were available. My husband remarked that it seemed rather late no rooms were cleaned this late in the day. Courtenay said that "well, you are 10 minutes early in a rather rude tone. You will just have to wait. We would have left, but there is a 24 hour cancellation notice.
We stayed in room 421 and were not able to sleep because of a smoke detector that flashes a blinking strobe light all night long .
On the positive side, the room was clean, the bed comfortable , and the lines were very nice.. The location close to the airport was convenient.
We called the General Manager, Kayti and explained our complaints. She listened to our complaints and offered to refund the 7.95. resort fee.
Given the discourteous way we were treated and the problem with the room, one would think the room fee would have also been refunded.
We use to love the La Quinta?s, but will look more closely at the reviews before staying at another one. Kathryn
My wife and I arrived from Lincoln NE, and our room was not ready. Amanda immediately dealt with the problem by upgrading us to a suite. I did not expect that type of Customer Service, and to have the problem dealt with so quickly. I am so pleased with Amanda, my wife's smile was wonderful when she saw our room!
I didn't realize dogs were allowed; some barked into the night; some ran down the hall without a leash only to jump all over the guests on the second floor...I like pets but not in a hotel.
Beds were comfortable; customer service good; housekeeping was not always the best...
Water in tub and sinks did not drain properly...rust in bathroom walls...overall dirty carpets only noticed because my white socks were cleaning the rugs..
Surprised at the $7.95 daily resort fee, so you can buy discount tickets for waterpark, total daily tax on each room $22.04.
Water park was enjoyed by children; Sliders restaurant food was very good for dinner and great service..
Free Bright Side Breakfast was not so bright.. Instant oatmeal, make your own waffles (OK), milk, juices uses 5 oz plastic cup (had to be back and forth 3x to get a decent amount).. hard boiled eggs; bread, bagels(cheapest brand), muffins (all sugar not taste), Apples, oranges and some bananas...all using foam plates (recycle doesn't count in SD?). Coffee terrible in small foam cups...
After first day, we went out for breakfast...
I would not return to this location.......
