"Its ok for what I paid"

I paid $56 on the memorial day weekend so for what I paid its a fine hotel room.
All outside corridors. Which I usually don't really like - but was handy for the dog show. Pull up in front of the room and load and unload. Its only a 2 story hotel, no elevators to the second floor.
The room smelled a bit moldy, but the bedding was very clean. Small room with 2 beds in it but there was an open corner by the table for a crate. It is nice that it has a little closet with little doors so I could keep stuff away from the dogs. I was a bit suprised that the tiny fridge sat on the floor. Usually its on a table or something. And I'm talking the tiny square ones! but it was ok for my needs.
Others have mentioned the bathroom is tiny! The shower was good water pressure and plenty of hot water.
The staff was great, and though breakfast is usually not until 7 am on the weekends, they had it out by 6 am for all the dog show people. We really appreciated it!! Pre packaged breads, muffins, cereals etc. Yogurt and hard boiled eggs. The usual fair.
There is an old trailer park next door (only paved roads and sidewalks left) I thought it might be a good place to walk my dogs but quickly found out its a local dumping ground for trash and lots of sandspurs - so stay away.
There is a big ditch on one side of the hotel where you can walk your dog. But I'm sure it gets wet with lots of rain. The sides of the ditch are pretty steep too. The trash cans are near the stairs at the middle of the building.
My husband chose this hotel for economy as we travel a lot due to our daughters sports. The room we had on the first floor was dated but cleanish. Simply put the rooms were standard low to mid level hotel rooms. We are always rushed in the mornings and this hotel offered continental breakfast with fruits, muffins, yogurt and cereal which was a nice little bonus. Also it should be noted that the pool area was clean and the kids enjoyed a little pool time after a long day of racing. I should also mention that another member of our party had a flooding issue in their room from a plumbing issue in the room above however, the hotel quickly relocated them to a new room.
The room we had was clean and neat. LOVED the bed and pillows. Probably the best "feature" was just a short walk across the parking lot to Mel's Diner. Breakfast was ok, the usual LaQuinta fare, but the presentation was nice. All in all we'd probably stay again.
We always stay at LaQuinta Inns, because of our dogs. Every LaQuinta Inn we have stayed at has been a fairly pleasant experience until this one in Central Fort Myers. The room reeked heavily of cigarette smoke, yet we saw not a single ashtray in the room. The bathtub was scarred by dark, cigarette burn marks. We asked the front desk for another room, but due to it being Memorial Day weekend, they were booked solid. They supposedly defogged our room when we went out to dinner, but we perceived little difference when we returned. This experience was so bad that I checked us out the following morning when it was supposed to be a 2 night stay. I will never be back to this hotel again.
I have stayed many times at different La Quintas and always could count on a nice clean room. But at this La Quinta the room was clean but the shower was very dirty. The shower curtain itself had splettered dirt all over it and the grout on the tiles was black. I hope I don't have another experience like this at another La Quinta. If so, I will have to find another mid priced hotel to stay.
