"Ok if you're desperate"

We stayed here for 4 nights while waiting to move into our new apartment, we chose to stay here to save a few hundred bucks, especially since they don't charge for pets and we had to bring our two cats.
When we pulled up we considered going elsewhere as there appeared to be some possible gang activity in the parking lot. We decided to give it a night and see what happened anyway. When we got to our non-smoking room the stench of cigarettes was just overwhelming. I think that they perhaps tried to strip the room of its smoke infused furnishings, as it was mostly the entrance way that smelt, but I guess they couldn't replace the doors. I ended up buying a plug in air freshener which took care of it for the most part.
The room itself was outdated, old and just, grimy. The bathroom was even worse, I'm kind of amazed that La Quinta has the balls to put 'just renovated' on their website for this hotel. I didn't even want to take a shower here, as I thought I may come out dirtier than when I went in. When I tried to locate an outlet to charge my phone, my only option was the extension cord that the alarm clock was plugged into. The clock kept resetting because the wiring was so bad on it.
Breakfast was OK, the muffins were appreciated, unfortunately their new breakfast attendant had still not learned how to fill the coffee machine properly by the time we left. I didn't even look at the pool, given how bad the rest of the place was.
Location might be about the only thing this place has going for it. It's right off US 59 and has lots of places nearby to eat. Just don't walk to any of them.
Definitely wouldn't stay here again, this was only our second La Quinta stay and it's probably our last.
This La Quinta definitely has some rough spots. The lights didn't work in the first room we were given. When I noticed they were unplugged, I went to plug them in and saw the cords were frayed and had exposed wiring, clearly a safety hazard. When we mentioned it at the front desk, the agent said, "Yeah, a lot of them are like that." Not what you want to hear, especially given that four firefighters were killed here in Houston while battling a motel fire a couple weeks ago.
Cleanliness is an issue. I'm sure the staff tries, but until a complete remodel is done, it's about like putting lipstick on a pig. The furnishings are worn, the bathroom needs some SERIOUS attention, and the room is heavily "perfumed" in an attempt to cover up some underlying musty odor. (If you're thinking maybe I just got a dud, wrong -- both rooms were like this.) One thing to note if you travel with electrical gadgets: outlets are in very short supply in the rooms. Also, the a/c unit is very loud, which I actually don't mind because it blocks any noise from the hallway.
I can't speak to the pool, fitness center, or business center, as I haven't used them. The breakfast area is tiny, and the selection limited.
Overall, I would say you're better off looking elsewhere.
I was suppose to stay for four days but could only stomach two. I left even though I had to pay for all four. One of the non-smoking rooms smelt like cigarettes and the other like mold. I asked to have something done about it and they moved my room & said they would clean it for someone else??? It was mold! Then my 12 yr old son went to get ice and had several teenagers in the hall threaten him. I wouldn't stay here again if it was free, much less if I had to pay for it!
The room was small, but clean. The breakfast was not great - one waffle machine with a long line, unflavored instant oatmeal, cereal, one flavor of yogurt, some fruit that looked like it may be on it's way out. Had to wait at the front desk for a while at check-in, and the desk was not staffed at all another day when I had a question. For the price, it barely met my expectations.
the rooms were standard. bed seemed to be clean and well made. The room next door to me had a dog in it that scratched at the door and barked / yelped EVERY NIGHT I stayed there. I contacted the front desk and was told there was nothing they could do but attempt to contact the owners since they were not in their room to quiet the dog down and make sure it didn't damage anything.
it is within walkign distance of Hooters, IHOP (though it smelled like a sewer in their parking lot) Papa Deaux, and a couple buffet places I can not recommend.
