We stayed in a deluxe King room with a view of the ocean (inside entry). Kerry was VERY nice and accomodating when their washing machine was broken. They accept pets free of charge. Kids like the small pool after a day at the beach, which is right across the street!! We will be back!
This was a great place to lodge. The seawall and beach were across the street. The stairs leading down to the beach directly in front of the hotel were covered with rocks at the base of the steps. One didn't have to walk far, however, to locate the next group of stairs to the beach. My room was on the third floor, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, and above the pool. At night when I returned from sightseeing, many families were having fun in the pool. To shut out the noise, I closed the heavy drapes and it worked.
This LaQuinta is located in an ideal area. It's close to Denny's for supper, across from the beach, and when you turn up 14th Street then you are only a few blocks away from the Bishop's Palace, Ashton Villa, and the gorgeous Moody Mansion. Also, you are not far from Downtown Galveston, where I suggest you spend a day. I stayed three nights and spent quality time in a different area each day. Don't forget to walk on or drive on the free ferry ride to Bolivar Point. You can see dolphins and it won't cost a thing. Before I left Galveston, I drove up and down the various streets and took pictures of the beautiful oak tree sculptures. Get a brochure and read about their stories. It was inspiring.
There is so much to see and do at Galveston Island and the LaQuinta is a great place to begin and end your day while visiting. The breakfasts consists of waffles, warm syrup, bagels and othe breads, instant oatmeal in regular and other flavors, instant grits (I think), juices, and coffee. Before I left, I suggested they add an addional pitcher of milk and bowls by the oatmeal area so one doesn't have to go across the room for the bowls and milk for the oatmeal. I also suggested adding flat disposable cups for the delicious warm syrup for the waffles. The manager seemed very pleased with the suggestions. She is open for suggestions and the entire staff is very friendly and sweet.
This is one hotel that I will visit again.
Not the shiniest or newest of hotels, but with perfectly clean and blissfully cool rooms with typical La Quinta linens and decor. Great location across from the Seawall. I really don't think you could beat the price. Filled with blue-collar families on vacation. We had a really lovely time.
Learned not to judge a book by its cover. Hotel was not that attractive on outside.(ugly orange color) Inside could not have been any neater and clean. Front desk clerk was very friendly. Rooms were small but we weren't in them enough for that to matter. If you want a reasonable priced clean room this is the Hotel for you. Will stay there next time I go for sure.
Hotel room was clean, ac very cold. Towels were thin and scratchy. Neighborhood behind looked a little worn down and intimidating during night. Breakfast wasn't fabulous. Right next to the beach. Denny's next door was horrible (waited 15 min before finished waiting for someone to come and take our order).
