I found this motel to be very clean, reasonably priced and very pleasant and staff. The pillow top beds were heaven to sleep on and the sheets were crisp and clean. I thought they were new. I was grateful for this since I have a phobia about sleeping on beds other people also have.

"Two Night Stay while visiting Kings Dominion"
4 of 5 stars Reviewed Jul 23, 2014

Rooms were comfortable with double beds and had a sofa sleeper. Great stay while visiting Kings Dominion, which was less than a mile away. We walked to the park and used the shuttle bus, to get back in forth from park to hotel. Shuttle bus does stop at the surrounding hotels and campground. It can take up to 15 - 20 mins. round trip. Staff was very friendly and helpful with anything we need. Especially when we needed to have laundry area unlocked for us. Pool area and fitness room were right next to each other. While working out we could watch the teenagers, in the indoor heated pool. Breakfast area had all the normal hot breakfast items with eggs, sausage, and waffles. Very large area and plenty of seating. There is a 7-eleven a block away that serves pizza, and a Burger King across the street. Denny's & Uno's Pizza is less than a mile away located at the Best Western down the street. One downfall was that room door needed to be pulled shut to latch and the elevator made a different chime for each floor. This could be annoying especially if you are staying right next to the elevator. This was about all I can complain about. Since we overall had a fantastic stay. Compared to the other two hotels on property, for the price I would for sure choose this location again and again! Thanks for the wonderful stay your staff, hotel, and location was great!!

"Finally a good hotel at Kings Dominion"

I usually don't visit Kings Dominion because of the poor hotels in the area. Because of the great concert (Joyfest) I decided to try K.D. one more time. La Quinta was wonderful.Rooms were large with double beds, couch, microwaves and refrigerators. Being right across the street from KD, the location was the best. The buses with Kings Dominion written on the side offer free shuttle from KD to hotel. The other shuttle cost $10 per room. The continental breakfast is superior to most and it is plentiful, not some small cramped space with everyone waiting for the items to be refilled. All the staff was gracious and helpful. My friend and I were chatting and suddenly realized we were past checkout which is 12. The staff was very gracious. Remember this is Doswell, Va, so with this in mind, I was very pleased. I am happy I can vist Kings Dominion and have a good hotel to spend the night at.

"Nice pet-friendly place!"
4 of 5 stars Reviewed Jul 15, 2014

This was my first experience with a La Quinta, and it was overall a very positive one. Decent hotels in this area that allow dogs are hard to come by, but I was pleased with this one. The price was a little higher than I would have liked, but I was also there on a holiday weekend (and clearly this hotel is meant mostly for Kings Dominion patrons). I was not in town for the amusement park festivities, so I was a bit concerned about that as it was a FULL house while we were there. My husband said that the doors slamming in the hallway woke him up several times (those heavy doors need something to keep them from slamming shut so quickly), but overall we had a great night's sleep. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows which really makes all the difference to me. I loved having a fridge/microwave in my room! We ended up ordering take out from Pepicelli's (we found a menu at the front desk) and it was awesome being able to keep some left overs for later. Overall the room looked nice and clean, so no major complaints there. However, we moved the couch in our room and it was pretty clear that it had not been cleaned under the furniture (including behind the night stands) for some time. I wouldn't expect a hotel to clean under every piece of furniture every day, but I left a comment suggesting that they do it every now and then so it doesn't build up. I was only at the hotel basically to sleep and leaving early in the mornings, but I did notice something worth mentioning to other travelers: I get the distinct impression that people are leaving their pets penned up in their rooms while they are out and about (probably at Kings Dominion). I don't know if this is against La Quinta policy or not, but I probably wouldn't have been very happy with the noise level if I had planned to sleep in as dogs were barking up and down the halls quite a lot as we arrived. It wasn't an issue for me, but it might be an issue for some. The breakfast looked "meh", so I decided to just grab some orange juice to go so I can't speak to how it actually tasted. There seemed to be a few hot items though, some fruit/cereal, bagels, etc. They also had plenty space to sit/eat which was nice though. Every staff member I encountered was super friendly, helpful, and efficient (even with some elevator repairs that were happening on a busy weekend, they seemed on the ball!) They even offered my dogs little treats when we came inside. I would definitely stay here again if I attend the same event next year.
