"A place to rest.... nothing else"

Located near the airport and far from SF downtown, this hotel is ok if you want to rest. Rooms are clean, beds are comfy, staff is ok and the place was very quiet during our stay.
However, I found the location to be ininteresting. You have to drive too much to get to downtown. There is some industrial facilities with trucks coming on day time which is a bit annoying. I encountered some werid persons at night near the railways.
However a guard is on duty at night and the place is safe.
Additionnaly, the breakfast is really bad except for the waffle... For those who want to eat, there are bunchs of fast food around and a Denny's next to the hotel.
The hotel is well located close to San Francisco airport and highway 101. Even close to both, rooms are well isolated sound wise. We could sleep without a problem. Rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast was copious and varied.
For those who plan to site see and be out and about this is a cool place to stay. They staff is awesome, truly helpful in making your stay comfortly. Note this, some of the rooms are a bit small and not as clean as you would hope(SHOWERS).
Checking in went well; our room was in the back building (down the road/across the RR tracks)...no problem. Decent room and shuttle pick up in the morning at the "back building". Sounds good....not when we returned on 8/8. The shuttle driver that picked us up at SF airport in the afternoon was so rude! He almost shoved a gentleman off the shuttle while the man was just trying to find out if he was on the correct shuttle. Then we made a stop at some random hotel that wasn't even listed on the shuttle. Some guy got on with no luggage and seemed to know the driver. Driver got off, went in for a few minutes and came back out with no passengers or anything. Kinda sketchy! My sister and I were the only passengers. We arrived at La Quinta and he pulled in the front building/office. I asked him if he would be going around to the back building and he acted very confused and said he'd have to ask. Really? He came back out from the office and informed us that "they" only pick up people from the back in the mornings but don't drop off in the afternoon. WHAT? Since he was making me nervous anyway and I was just happy to get off his shuttle, we got off and walked down the back road and across the RR tracks to our car. Not the best section of town and we also started wondering ...what if it had been dark or raining. Nice service for paying almost $200 for one night and SHUTTLE service! NEVER stay here if you want decent/friendly park and fly service. (at least in the afternoon! The driver in the morning of 8/4 was awesome!)
I stayed at this hotel for the 1st time last week for a total of 5 days/ 4 nights with my husband and 2 of our 3 dogs. The main reason why we stayed here was because I was looking for a hotel that is pet friendly, offers free wifi, free breakfast and free parking. Very rarely are there nice hotels in the Bay Area that offer all of those things. The best thing about La Quinta Hotels is that they are very pet friendly and do not charge a pet fee during your stay.
So with that, I booked our stay at this hotel on their website (don't forget to use your triple A card for an additional 10% discount). When we first checked in last Thursday, we were placed in a room (1 king bed with microwave and mini fridge) that was nice and clean and had no complaints initially. However, our room (#307) was directly across from the produce factory that is in the same lot as this hotel (there is also a 24 hours Denny in the same parking lot as well) and that kept us up from 1 am- 3 or 4 am in the morning. The next day, I asked the front desk for a much quieter room and had no problems with my request and so off we moved ourselves to room #202. This room is off to the side and a little larger than the other room we were in (also a 1 king bed with microwave and mini fridge) and absolutely MUCH quieter than the previous room. Our stay in the new room was very nice and had no complaints.
The front desk staff that helped me upon check in and for my request for a new room (same person) is a manager and she wasn't really friendly or overly helpful. But she provided the minimum service and I was okay with that.
The complementary breakfast was much to be desired. The way the set up is for the breakfast is that there is one small room with all of the food (breakfast is available 6-9 am weekdays and 7-10 am on weekends) and then other rooms for seating areas. If you come after breakfast hours, the room will be closed and you are unable to get anything (but of course you could always go to that Denny's). Anyways, the only protein available for breakfast were hard boiled eggs, yogurt and milk. I kind of wished there were breakfast sausages or something else, especially since we had just stayed at another La Quinta in Paso Robles where they had scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. Of course the complementary breakfast did have your standard fare or cereal (both hot and cold), make your own waffle station, assorted bread items and so forth. I just didn't like that it was always overly crowded no matter what time we came for breakfast and what day (yep even at 6 am once it was crowded).
After reading reviews on yelp and tripadvisor, I was afraid that parking would be an issue (as that is a common theme in all of these reviews that I read). I asked the manager about this upon check in and she told me that it would be okay for me to park at the Denny's lot. She said I did not have to move my car earlier in the day if I parked there at night. She told me that my car would not get towed... but that just sounded odd to me and I would not risk parking my car in their lot. But anyways, each evening when I came back to this hotel after a fun adventurous day, I was still able to find parking. I didn't even get the last parking spot, there were still some parking spots available in the La Quinta parking lot after 10 pm each evening during the weekdays and weekends I stayed here).
Overall, this hotel is "Average", thus my 3 circle rating. I wouldn't mind staying here again if I was to come back to the Bay area and travel with my 4 legged dogs (yes we are those people that like to travel with our pups). Also just wanted to mention that the wifi was on the slow side, especially during the day when everyone else was probably using it.
