You certainly don't stay here for a glitzy New York experience. The neighborhood is fairly dismal. Old shops and dated small residences. One and a half blocks down 13th toward 5th avenue an evicted resident is still squatting outside his former home with his belongings stacked on his stoop. The 5-floor motel, itself, is just ordinary. My room had neither a fridge nor microwave so I was offered use of the breakfast area microwave 24/7 if I needed it. I was cautioned not to use the vending machine for snacks because they were rarely changed and said to be stale. Anyway, there are several 24/7 convenience places a block or two away; so if you can remember to grab your provisions on the way back, you shouldn't have a problem. There're only 12 legitimate parking spaces so some of the overflow, including two federal government licensed vehicles during my stay, parked on the sidewalk. If you drive around, though, you can find street parking nearby. And there's a filling station just across the way. I did have an in-room coffee maker but was somewhat dissatisfied with the free starter breakfast. I pushed the apple juice button and got orange. I pushed orange and got apple. The staff didn't seem to care. At the reception you can grab a free local tabloid newspaper each day which features a lot of local ads and short news stories mostly of New York interest. The motel is serviced a few blocks away by the F, G, and R (late nights the N) trains. There's also the 103 bus that only rides in Brooklyn. But it will take you a while to commute into mid-town Manhattan. I would suggest that if you are thinking of staying here that it be only for the location, because the motel is close to the Barclay's Center, Brooklyn Museum, and the Academy of Music. You can also walk to Prospect Park (fun on nice weekends) and ride the F line to Coney Island. But if you're here to see the sights of Manhattan and Broadway, you're better off to stay in the city.
Average Hotel, nothing special. Located in a junky area. Vending machines out of order, main hotel air conditioner out of order during entire stay. Tiny breakfast area with only a few food items. Room was clean and quiet. Direct TV. Corner rooms open door into chest.
There was a total indifference. When pointing out a deficiency there was no sign of improving. There was a total lack of smiles at arrival and throughout the visit (5 days) Worst breakfast experience in a long time. When pointing out the food was depleted half way through breakfast nothing was done. It was still depleted the following morning. The Room was nice, and well kept.
The front desk staff was very helpful and the maid was very accommodating. The hotel needs some updating or regular maintenance when it comes to things like changing out the curtains (the curtains had mildew stains) or addressing the radiator/AC (floor were wet near the AC) after it rains. The bathrooms were a little small, but clean. The rooms were small, but most hotel rooms in NY are small. The room fit a king sized bed and other furnishings with some room. The room was actually bigger than a Best Western in Manhattan. The hotel is very convenient for public transportation and since it is in Park Slope there are a few cute little restaurants and delis for you to enjoy. If the hotel paid a little more attention to basic details(removal of old towels, bed linens, curtains, etc.), it would have been up to the La Quinta standards of La Quinta hotels that I previously stayed in while in Miami and Atlanta.
