We stay at La Quinta hotels frequently, in fact this night was our "Free Night" because we had so many points. Well, there's no such thing as a free lunch! The room smelled awful, the lamps were covered with dust, and there was a Kleenex stuck in the smoke detector! It didn't give us a great feeling of having a clean room to sleep in. In the bathroom, when you sit on the toilet the paper rolls are touching you the wall is so close to the toilet. This is an older style room with the sink, mirror, counter outside the bathroom. The breakfast room had really funky Jetsons-like furniture and a very poor traffic/seating area. The location was pretty good but we wouldn't stay here again. Maybe the "free-nighters" are rewarded with the lousiest room in the hotel???
Since we travel with our black lab, and since the only national chain that regularly accepts pets is La Quinta Inn, we've gotten to know several of the franchise locations east of the Mississippi. For whatever reason, the one in Salem/Roanoke is one of the best. It always seems cleaner, more up to date, and quieter. While they offer the standard free breakfast, it is nothing to write home about. Make sure you ask for a room on the first floor since the elevator is slow. That being said, they are nice to our dog and have lots of places outside for the dog to do her thing. We've stayed at this location for four summers in a row and can easily still recommend it.
Spent the night here on a trip from Florida to Connecticut. A great location which is just off the interstate providing easy access off and on. Just beware that the hotel is kind of out of sight on the right coming from the interstate just turn in at the Burger King and you will be fine. A comfortable king sized bed which provided a very good night?s sleep. Although the hotel was quite crowded it was quiet so the insulation is up to par. Only down side was that the only restaurant within walking distance was the aforementioned Burger King. However, we did have a nice dinner downtown at Mac N Bob?s which seemed to be a very popular local joint. Good food, good service and reasonable prices and about five miles from the hotel. Back to the hotel we found the staff very friendly and helpful. The lobby is has recently be redecorated with some very funky red furniture. Breakfast was standard and fine coffee was fresh as was the food. So if you are looking for a good stop over and are in the area you should certainly put this La Quinta on your list. My only caveat was the rate was a little higher that I would like.
Perfect for an overnight stop. Staff was extremelyfriendly and accommodating. Newly renovated very modern breakfast area with offerings we had not had in other LQ (biscuits, gravy and sausage). Rooms are decent size with fridge micro ironing board coffe maker. Bed and linens are very nice.Exhaust and Wc were quiet. Rooms and bathroom seem recently renovated too. Next to I-81 close enough to Salem for rrestaurants. Did notgo toRoanoke so cannot say about proximity. The general manager greeted personally guests and even went to our door to make sure everything was satisfactory. Only thing that might be a problem for some is that it is more of a hotel, but there are side doors to access parking. Area feels very safe.r.
We stayed one night while passing through Virginia. I pre-booked on the La Quinta web site. No problems at all. Asked for a ground floor room and had a nice one waiting for us. The rooms were spacious and clean, the entire facility seemed very well cared for. The wall may be a little thin, as we could hear someone stomping around in the room above us, but that ceased about 10pm and we heard them no more.
Although they were booked up and the breakfast room was swarming with folks, the little white haired lady who prepared breakfast kept the chow coming with a smile and friendly greeting for everyone. Biscuits and sausage gravy, boiled eggs, waffles, pastries, cerial etc. We will try to time our trip up I-81 so we stop at the La Quinta the next we drive through VA to Maryland.
Also, with a military discount the room was only $77 plus tax.
