"Wish I would have known about construction before I booked."

This hotel was ok as far as an older location goes. The main thing I didn't like was that the hotel I booked online, looked nothing like the hotel I walked into. After being in a car with kids for 8+ hours, I expect to walk into at least some sort of calm, and I walked into a hotel that looked like they had just blasted the lobby area. The entire lobby was under construction. They were doing their best to keep it clean and neat considering the circumstance, but I wish I would have know this ahead of time, as I don't prefer to book hotels that are currently undergoing renovations.
We have stayed at several LaQuinta's in the past and had a great experience. My sister had stayed at this hotel less than a year ago and recommended it.
When we checked it was a surprise to learn that the whole lobby area is under construction due to remodeling. I don't think I would have stayed here had I been told of this. But I thought maybe that meant that the rooms had been updated already so we went ahead with our stay. The room was in poor condition. The positives are that the bed was comfortable, had a nice TV and appeared to be clean. The furnishings looked worse that what I have seen at garage sales. Every piece was beat up. The restroom had a two light fixture with a fan but only one bulb would work. We stayed for multiple nights and every day when we returned our key would not work in the door and would have to go to the lobby to get it "recharged". The breakfast area was also under construction & unfinished. As my son said it was a little sketchy. The free breakfast was the same every morning, but for free it's better than nothing. This hotel is in a great location for shopping and to KCI but right now it needs some work.
After another long day on the road, upon walking into the "lobby" of this hotel, I truly thought I was the subject of a "Candid Camera" episode. I thought that I had time-traveled back a few decades and was just waiting for Allen Funt to come around the corner and say "smile, you're on Candid Camera" :). Seriously, the "front desk" area looked as if a tornado had breezed through moments before my arrival. The front desk and "breakfast nook" area were in a state of a very make-shift arrangement. I later found out that the hotel was undergoing renovation ... which it clearly needed. The whole place smelled of sawdust and other construction materials. I was so travel-worn at that point, I decided to stay and take my chances. My first point here is that it would have been nice if the reservation clerk would have provided a little heads up about what I might find upon arrival when we made reservations. The "shock value" would have been less severe. Secondly, reservations seemed totally immune to our reservations request. We had reserved over a week in advance. As is our custom because I travel with so much equipment and luggage, we had requested a ground floor room, or at least one as close to the entrance as possible. So, what did I get? Of course; a room at the very end of the long hallway on the third floor. They could not have gotten our request more upside down. Still, I thought, no problem; I can just use the stairs to access an entrance close to the parking area. After all, a few three-story round-trips on the stairs would be good for me. Only problem was that the entrance toward the back of the hotel (where I had been exiled) was closed for entry -- supposedly due to the construction. My room was not clean -- certainly not what I've come to expect of LaQuinta. Furniture was terribly worn out, beaten up, etc., and the toilet -- well, I will spare you the details (Yuk). This was not a good travel experience for the reasons shared here. However, I can see real possibilities here; once construction is completed and if reservation staff can do better to meet traveler's needs. Hence; my title for this review, "cubic zirconia in the rough". Hopefully, new room furniture is in the plans for the renovation; and a bit of housekeeping staff training on providing the traveler with a pleasant and 'clean' experience. I will give this place another try next time I'm in the area. However, I will be sure to check if the renovation is completed yet; if not, I will look elsewhere. I'll also check if they've gotten any better with reserving according to guest preferences. If you're traveling to this area and considering this Inn, I would strongly suggest that you inquire as to the status and of the renovation. Then, "buyer beware". Meanwhile, here's my wish and blessings for your safe and enjoyable travel. Remember to be safe and courteous whilst traveling these crazy highways and byways. Somebody is looking forward to your safe arrival -- be it back at home or elsewhere. Rev. Bill, moreableinc.org
We decided to give this hotel another chance since we're fans of LQ and it's conveniently located near the airport. How on earth this place got the TripAdvisor seal of excellence is beyond me.
For starters, it was another weird check-in scenario. We were redeeming LQ Rewards points, and the lady at the front desk wouldn't accept my ID. Something about needing my husband's since his name was primary on the account. Which was funny, since she accepted my credit card with no problems! Never had this issue at any other LQ, ever.
Second, the hotel is under construction and looks like garbage. No idea why they would try to remodel multiple places at once, but don't expect anyone to give you an explanation, or see a "pardon our mess" sign, etc. The breakfast bar now has no lights, so enjoy preparing your breakfast in the dark.
The pool was freezing. We stayed in for about 5 minutes before we had to get out. There is no hot tub, which I guess I didn't notice last time. That's a shame - we were looking forward to that after an international flight. This is the first LQ we've stayed at that didn't have one.
The room itself was ok. The shower was poorly lit and the furniture, walls and door all had huge nicks and stains. But the bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well.
Maybe when they get everything remodeled, it will be nicer? We're not willing to give it another shot. The entire staff seems like they are sad to work there. It's just a dingy, depressing hotel. We'll be staying elsewhere next time.
First off, the place is being remodeled so there is construction EVERYWHERE. There is no lobby. Just a person behind a makeshift front desk.
My room was 121, at the end of the hall in front of a NON-locking outside door. You know, the kind of door MURDERERS like to use.
The room itself was pretty dreadful. Huge cracks in the walls. Dirty bathroom (hair and whatnot left from the previous guest). The toilet paper holder was broken so every time I used toilet paper it fell on the floor.
There was a fire drill about 15 mins after I checked in. I was the only person who showed up for it. They said they were testing out the system and to ignore all future fire drills. I guess that means NO fires ever actually happen???
This place is a dump and should be CLOSED during renovations.
