"Good price but in need of an update"

Stayed here for 1 night because it was across the street from the business park I had an early morning meeting in. Other choice was the Marriott which was considerably more expensive. This was under $100 for the night. The lobby is in need of an update. You are greeted by a chandelier from the 80's?? Outdated colors throughout the facility. The "suite" was obviously at one time 2 standard connecting rooms. One room had the pullout sofa and the other the bed. Both sides had an identical bathroom. The room appeared to be clean. I say appear because everything was very worn and old that it assumed it was clean. The bathroom was definitely clean. I will give them that. Furniture was old with some damage if you looked close. Given all this I did not take advantage of the breakfast, but then I didn't need to as I had a breakfast meeting. It attracts many different people given the inexpensive prices. Based upon my experience, I wouldn't say it is a business travelers hotel. In short, not the worst place I've stayed at but desperately needs a makeover. Unlikely to return.
We stayed here for five days in June for the Junior National volleyball tournament at the convention center. We often stay at the La Quinta hotel chain while in Florida. I have to admit this hotel was clean and the staff was very nice but the rooms were pretty small with very little drawer and closet space. It is definitely not the nicest La Quinta I have stayed at but it was perfectly fine. I do have to say, though, that the staff was wonderful at this hotel and bent over backwards to accommodate us by finding us rollaway beds, plastic cups when we were hanging out as a large group in the breakfast area at night and even turning on the water machine for us so that we could have water.
This is by no means a bad place to stay; the only real downside to this hotel was the small rooms. Other than that, the stay here were perfectly nice. Thank you to the staff for dealing with our big group and going out of your way to make our stay enjoyable!
We were in Minneapolis for a volleyball tournament and our team was assigned to the La Quinta Brooklyn Park by the tournament housing company (THS). When we arrived to the hotel, we immediately saw that it was run down. There were nasty looking stains on the walls (picture attached) near the elevator and in other areas. The lobby furniture was dusty and not maintained. As we walked into the room, the smell of musty, old, wet linens or towels hit us. I quickly turned the air on, and as the room cooled down, the smell got a little better. When I looked in the shower, there was a hole near the floor that they had tried to patch (picture attached.) There were also holes in the bedding. The bed frame was made out of 2 X 8's. I could go on and on...
We slept very uncomfortably that night, and left early for volleyball. When we arrived back to the room, the beds had been made but were disheveled looking (picture attached). The other families we were with had similar experiences and contributed some pictures to this review. We were all very unhappy, and quickly tried to find another hotel. When I contacted the manager (Jamie Mena) to tell him our complaints and that we wanted to check out the next morning (after two nights), he told us there would be a penalty since we were checking out early (we reserved four nights). When I told him that he would have 9 very unhappy customers if he did not allow us to check out the next day without a penalty, his response was, "So, you think I shouldn't charge a penalty, just because you are unhappy?"
After contacting THS and the sales manager at the hotel, they told us we would be able to check out the next day without a penalty (I'm going to be checking my credit card statement closely.)
As were were leaving the hotel, we noticed a large "For Sale" sign on the property.
We walked in the hotel and it smelled odd and did not look worth the $100.00 per night. I ended up cancelling a reservation by telephone. The assistant manager (Theresa) said there was no charge, but the hotel charged me one night for a room anyway. I have been trying for several days to get this cleared. The "LaQuinta" corporate office said they have "no authority" over what the hotel charged. When I call the actual hotel has been getting the run around. I have to speak with this Theresa, but she is never there.
The $100.00 is now a lesson learned. I will never stay at LaQuinta again, I recommend everyone do the same.
Room was small and dirty. Mold on ceiling in bathroom along with other unknown red product on the tiles and on the grout. Did not change dirty sheets. Exercise facility was poor and accompanied with a strong unpleasant odor. Beds were tiny! Pillows were bricks. Nothing comfortable to think you're coming "home" to relax at the end of the day, let alone a good nights rest. Most definitely will not stay there again!!!
