"Smelly but Nice"
3 of 5 stars Reviewed Sep 16, 2014

Upon entering the thrid floor from the elevator, we noticed an old water/musty smell-figured they had cleaned the carpets recently. When we opened our room (319), it definately was stronger in the room. The ac was on low so I turned it down to try to get the smell out which did help a bit. When we took off our shoes, we could tell the carpet wasn't completely dry or sopping wet - just barely wet. While my daughter was showering, I called the front desk asking about the smell and if it had been cleaned that day. The female on duty said she 'didn't know if the room had been done, but it shouldn't have been available if it wasn't dry'... She offered to move us to another room which I declined because after driving 10+ hours, we just wanted to relax and didn't want to move our multiple bags to another room. There were only 'fast food' establishments close by and we opted to stay in and munch crackers we had with us for dinner. The residue on the damp carpet left from the cleaning was slick on our feet. So, before bed, we washed our feet. Otherwise, the sheets felt funny due to the cleaning chemicals on our feet. The next morning, thanks to turning the ac unit up, the carpet was basically dry, but a slight smell remained. As we were leaving our room, I mentioned the smell to the housekeepers on our floor who confirmed the carpets had just been cleaned. One lady went to check the room and took some spray for the carpet. The housekeeping ladies were very nice. I did tell the male at the front desk about the musty smell also. Otherwise , the beds were comfortable, tv worked fine, towels were great. I would have liked some real butter and boiled eggs on their breakfast - they had basically everything else you could ask for. The front desk attendant also kept warming the breakfast items. One thing I noticed is he used his bare hands to put the biscuits, etc out. Shouldn't the people in charge of the breakfast foods practice cleanliness and sanitary standards? For the price of the room compared to the musty smell, I would rate this stay only average. Otherwise, it would have received a higher rating. They just need to crank up the ac when they do clean the carpets and not put paying guests in rooms/areas that have just been cleaned....

"Excellent service, older building"

Our room had a mildew smell but other rooms didn't. The desk clerk and breakfast server were both very helpful and friendly. We didn't report the odor problem so it was our own fault we weren't moved to another room. We had several family members staying and had a wonderful time visiting in the lobbby and at breakfast. Will probably stay here again.

"Not worth the money"

For the amount of money paid I could have, should have, stayed at a better hotel. There are other hotels that would charge around the same price and actually clean the rooms and have air conditioners that work. Also, and most importantly, the employees at least put forth the image that they appreciate my business.

"Best place to stay in Orange"
5 of 5 stars Reviewed Aug 9, 2014
MICHAEL J |
Stayed because of a family wedding. All the other hotels I've stayed in orange over the years are not close to the quality of this hotel. The pool was awesome! The rooms are very nice. The only complaint is that the room was muggy when we first arrived. But it's orange tx, very muggy, humid, sticky town. Turned the ac on and an hour later felt good. Maybe they should leave them on all the time. Front desk employee Elizabeth was wonderful. She even hurried through our check in for us so we could swim in the pool before it closed. Buy the way the only fun we had in Orange the whole time we were there. This is definitely our goto hotel when we come to orange.
