"OUR MONTEREY STAY"
Reviewed May 21, 2013
A La Quinta traveler |
We stayed at this Laquinta for 2 nights while visiting Monterey and Big Sur. It was the best motel experience in the last 12 months of motel staying. The staff was wonderfule and helped us navigate a huge repaving project. They went over all of our destinations on the local map and made sure we had our bearings right!. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. This was our first experiece with LaQuinta chain and we will seek this chain out when traveling in the future. This location is away from the commotion of downtown and about a 10 minute walk to a very nice beach. This motel is a little gem in our opinion. We also stayed at another Laquinta by San Jose airpot when returning home and would ditto this review.
First time in Monterey. Hotel very easy to find, right off freeway. Our room was toward the expressway and (up close and personal), so I was pleased that the road noise was OK, especially with the A/C fan on low. Breakfast was average. Parking was adequate, but tight turns. Staff was VERY helpful! Though the hotel was old, it was very clean.
The exhaust fan in the bathroom made noise, but didn't take out only humidity .... a small annoyance.
Room was larger than we expected and very nice, our only issue was you cannot pull the heavy shades to make the room darker if you want to sleep in a little, all you have are the sheers. But the easy 10 minute walk to the beach more than makes up for it and you don't have to fight for a parking spot to get there. Friendly staff, microwave and fridge in room with freezer compartment, nice breakfast in the AM.
I had just gotten back to my room after a very miserable experience whale watching. I was not feeling well at all and needed to use the bathroom (which happened to have a broken lock). Next thing I know, I look up and there is a woman standing there looking at me while I am doing my business. The bathroom was obviously occupied with the lights on and fan running but the maid didn't think to knock. Absolutely inexcusable. I will not be back to another La Quinta again.
Upon arrival, check in was not met with an enthusiastic welcome. The first thought I had of our room (220), "Glad I only paid $109.00", second "No down comforter! :( " and third " Why is there rusty, red water coming out of the shower faucet?". After a night out on the town, I was happy to have a nice bed to fall into....I woke up around 3am to an odd smell, like mold or old carpet. The morning light brought to my attention the bathroom, it was in some disarray and could use DIY channel expertise to fix some of the water damage to the shower and surrounding walls. The final eye catching feature was the tile floor, in need of some special cleaning.... I would stay again, since it was only 1 mile from the beach!!! All in all, If I had to compare it to another like hotel, it would be similar to a Motel 6 with 3 Stars.
