Stayed two nights for a local wedding. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was decent. Building is a bit aged so our room had several extension cords being used for the refrigerator, microwave, and lamps. I doubt that this meets fire code. I think that there are better choices close by that we will use next time.
Weekend getaway to the Quad Cities. Went to see the Holmes Brothers at Muddy Waters (great show, great venue). Our room was what we expected. The breakfast was fine. Two waffle makers made the wait very short.
The reason for the title is an employee named Sue. She checked us in on Friday afternoon. We immediately felt welcome. She switched our room so we could be closer to friends who were also staying at the hotel. She visited with us about Muddy Waters, told us the best way to get there, and was so very pleasant while still doing her work. Cookies available at checkin, she made sure I was able to have some milk with them
Sue was working again on Sunday morning as we checked out. Another guest had just finished giving her a raft of xxxx about her room. Sue was pleasant with her (much more than I could have been) and waited until the lady had finished venting. She then turned her attention to me to help me get checked out.
The hotel can only hope to have more employees like her.
Attended a weekend even in the Quad-Cities, and chose this LaQuinta for lodging. Property was very nice, room was very clean and quiet, location was very good. Not sure if we'll get back to this area anytime soon, but if we do, this hotel will be our first choice of lodging.
We were on our way to see friends in Des Moines and go to the State Fair. (BTW State Fair was great:). This LQ is about 3 hours from the Chicagoland area and Des Moines. Since we've not been to Iowa as a vacation destination we decided to explore a bit. In LeClaire (about 20 minutes away) you'll find Buffalo Bill Cody's boyhood home and the American Pickers "showrooms". They have a paddleboat so you can ride the Mighty Mississippi. A half hour west on I-80 take the Wilton exit. Six miles south in the town you'll find the Wilton Candy Kitchen. Its the oldest candy store, confectionery, cream parlor IN THE WORLD. The business and the building it occupies pre-date the Civil War. The same family has operated it since 1910. 94 year old George still makes great Butter Brickle ice cream. The Amana Colonies are an easy drive as well. Don't forget John Deere, the beautiful River Walk that stretches to Davenport and all of the parks and museums this area has to offer. All in all, if you're looking for a convenient, centrally located base to explore the Quad Cities area this LQ is the place to stay. Plus there's a Red Lobster right across the parking lot.
When we got to the hotel it was late in the evening. They were expecting us and the check in was quick and the staff was very friendly. The outside was neatly keep. There were no cigarette butts lying around and plenty of trash cans for trash. The problem that we encountered was the house keeping staff was vacuuming the room at all. They did change the sheets on the 3rd day. When it came to the bathroom they really failed. They never mopped the floor or cleaned the tubs. Always forgot soap or shampoo. And we had 2 rooms that were at the opposite end of the hotel so it was different maids even. The breakfast could use a little help there. For 6 days all the had were biscuits and gravy and eggs. They never had bacon or sausage and the excuse was the truck has come in yet. If you stay one night you will be ok. For the area the price was average. The reason why we stayed for seven days is because of the points.
