"several problems"
1 of 5 stars Reviewed Jul 19, 2014

Last night I had a disappointing stay at La Quina South, 4200 I-35 South in Austin. I was awaken several times last night by people talking in the parking lot. I realize that as a motel (with the door practically attached to the parking lot) that there is not much that can be done about this problem. This problem alone will keep me from returning to the property. However, there are problems that I feel the management of the property could address to improve the experience of most guests. 1) Every time the air conditioner started cooling it blew directly in my face and on my body as I attempted to sleep. The vents could not be adjusted to change the direction of the air. 2) The breakfast was poor. I have had much better breakfast at Super 8. a) The breakfast consisted of packaged donuts, packaged muffins, packaged bagels, packaged mini-pancakes, and limited amount of fruit. There was no hot food (such as breakfast tacos) or a waffle machine. b) There was plenty of 2% milk (only), but no regular milk or juice. c) At 7:30 the only fruit available was bananas, and when I returned at 8:45 there was no fruit at all. d) The property was out of regular coffee. Why didn't the motel have coffee on a Saturday morning? I was told I could make coffee using the coffee maker in my room, so I returned and found that the coffee maker was missing the plastic tray to hold the coffee packet. I returned to the front where the desk clerk provided me with a plastic tray. Why was the coffee maker missing the plastic tray in the first place? Shouldn't your housekeepers replace the trays instead of simply throwing the used trays in the trash? I did make and enjoyed one cup of coffee. I had no more coffee in the room, so I decided to go to a gas station where I could get a better breakfast and more coffee without having to confront the desk clerk again. For the room rate that this property charges I feel the breakfast could have been better. Paying similar rates I have had much better breakfasts at other locations. Robert J.

"Good For An Older Property"
4 of 5 stars Reviewed Jul 16, 2014

Hotel is older & right off I-35. Lots of traffic nearby but the rooms were well insulated. Rooms could use a bit of a "refresh" but it was fine for the rate. The beds were "okay" in comfort & the pillows seemed to need to be replaced. One was flat, one or two okay. The rooms are to be Non-Smoking, but you could smell the smoke from previous guests.

"Moma said First look is a lasting impression"
3 of 5 stars Reviewed Jul 15, 2014

At first I thought ewwww but it was clean staff were very nice and the room was nice. I got there, took a power nap and changed my clothes. Realized something was biting me but not sure thought it was my imagination. Went to the activity scheduled for that day and came back went to sleep. Got up that next morning went to the bathroom and noticed these black specks on my legs - FLEAS, I was like what. I was going to stay a little at least till check out but it was not bearable. So I packed up and just left. Unfortunately when I checked out I was trying to be discreet in telling hime the room had fleas but he seemed amazed at such. Uhm if you allow dogs in might want to use flea powder after they leave as a precaution.

Very small room and very little value for the price of the accommodation. Breakfast was extremely La Quinta hotels do provide. Overall very little bank for the buck. Redeeming the reception gentleman was terrific and very pleasant and efficient.
