"Excellent Hotel-abutting a park and trail system"
5 of 5 stars Reviewed Jun 12, 2013

This is our second stay at this hotel, the first being about 10 years ago. While the driving directions to get to this hotel from Interstate 5 are a little complicated, once we got here, it was wonderful. If you can possibly do so, ask for a room facing south (towards the park, ponds and Willamette River). The view to the South is worth the trip. There are trails, ponds, the Willamette River, you can spend most of the day exploring. This is a great place to bring a bicycle. There were canoe rentals in the pond next to the hotel. The staff couldn't have been nicer, starting with the front desk lady. Even the housekeeping staff were really friendly. The hotel was clean, with no funny smells. Breakfast was typical continental breakfast with biscuits and gravy, along with do-it-yourself waffles. Very adequate. We'll be back soon to this hotel. The only drawback is limited dining in the immediate area, but there are many dining choices within a mile radius.

"Nice room amenities ... Nice location"

Very nice location along the river with paths nearby. Very dark parking lot at night however. Room was big and tastefully decorated. Awesome TV channel selection with a ton of HD and an on screen guide. Bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the short walk to campus and downtown. Carpets were a bit dirty with pet hair but it wasn't overly notable. All in all pretty decent.

"Plan to sleep but dont eat!"

I had to stay here on business. Checking is was easy. Night staff was very friendly. Rooms were clean, beds will give you a good nights sleep. If you go to get breakfast in the morning, DONT talk to the lady in the kitchen. She will make rude remarks... and DONT complain about ANYTHING. We simply asked if we could sit at a table and our heads got chewed out! I went to the manager to express how unprofessional the kitchen help was and I quote "I listened to you and that should be enough." He was VERY rude... made a rude comment about my husband as well. The place was nice but the General Manager needs to work on his SKILLS! Because of him, I refuse to spend my money here. Everything else beside the General Manager and the old lady in the kitchen was great!

"Never again"

We were just stopping overnight on our way to CA. My first "warning" should have been waiting in the lobby for 5 minutes for someone to check us in. They weren't busy, there was just no employee there. Once she returned, she was nice enough, but to only have one person the desk at 5p on a Sunday? Bad management We went through the lobby about five times that evening and only once was there anyone behind the check in desk. The room was nice enough, but there were some housekeeping issues: a hair in the jacuzzi tub, a long black hair on the washroom floor (& I'm blonde, so it wasn't mine). I tried to overlook these things because the room was at least spacious, if oddly laid out, & the bed was at least comfortable? It just seemed to me that the whole place...I don't know...it's like rather than do a true upgrade, they just put a veneer over an aging hotel. The next morning we walked out to load some things in the car & go in for the free breakfast...to find that our window had been smashed & half our stuff stolen. In itself, not the hotel's fault, but... The response we got from the desk was, "I'm sorry...here's the number for the police." No one came out to look, no one even offered us a broom to sweep up the glass so that we didn't have to drive over it. 2 cars in the lot were broken into, both under a light, both within sight line of the front desk...which would have been fine if anyone were at the front desk, which I'd already seen was not often. And by the time we finished dealing with the broken glass, police, etc., their breakfast was over. "Sorry" was their response. Really? They couldn't even pull out a yogurt or stale bagel? What irks me most is that the hotel is in a high crime area (8 cars "smash & grab" in the area that morning...according to Eugene PD, the whole city is a high crime area, mostly because of their meth problems). No one from the hotel mentioned this. Nor did they tell us they had an underground parking structure with video cameras...we found this out from a departing guest as we were dealing with our break in). We thought the only lot was the one at street level. This was our first stay at a La Quinta & it is certainly our last. For the price of a Hampton Inn, it was half the hotel. The level of service here was bad from the beginning, & in light of the trauma of having our car broken into (@ a loss of > $3000), well, I'm pretty sure another hotel would have at least offered a broom, if not swept it themselves. DO NOT STAY ANYWHERE NEAR THE RIVER...and do not stay at this La Quinta. Actually, don't stay in Eugene if you don't have to.

"To close to duck the Ducks"
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

We spent a night at the Eugene La Quinta Inn & Suites. They were very helpful as I had my pickup truck with "stuff" in the open back and they have an underground parking for a dozen or so vehicles with monitoring cameras for security. Also I used La Quinta value points and had a King room with all the usual amenities for $30! I have used discounts at other hotels and feel the presence of annoyance by the desk clerk, but not here. The only downfall was it was a little awkward to locate as the streets are slightly complex with one-way and turn restrictions. It is very near the U of O campus and since i am a OSU fan I was sure I could smell a little duck droppings in the air.
