"Great Staff, hotel has passed its prime"

La Quinta needs to either dump this hotel (perfect for a America's Best Value dump), or gut it and make a major upgrade. All of the staff that I saw were very friendly and helpful and a credit to La Quinta, and doing the best that they could with this property. Everything seems worn and somewhat dirty, the freeway noise never ends, and the "working women" crossing through the parking lot coming and going from the Hilton next door add to the entertainment. The kids from the two school buses that were there were out of control during the afternoon, but evening, night and at breakfast, did NOT cause any problems.
Hallway carpet and walls were dirty. You could hear people talking outside of window. We stayed on the second floor the floor above us u could hear someone walking hard all night. Smoke smell in a non smoking room. I've stayed at plenty of hotels and this is the first time I write a review and first time I've had an unpleasant stay. Price is right but for a few dollars more you can get something better. And don't book through Priceline. After I got there and seen it was nothing like pics I wanted to cancel my stay but couldn't. Pass this one up!!!!
I must admit - this past week was by far the worst experience I've had with a la quinta hotel. The hotel was selected for me and based on reviews I found online I was apprehensive, but hoped for the best (knowing that some reviews can be exaggerated).
Unfortunately, the reviews were correct - this location is not up to the quality of most la quinta locations - here are my specific gripes:
1 - My room lacked the light-blocking shade, so at night the parking lot lights pretty much illuminated my room - very annoying. (if the issues stopped here I wouldn't be emailing in about it.)
2 - The portion of the hotel I was in (4th floor) was generally not very clean - it was obvious that the cleaning staff tried their best, but every morning when I left I saw trash piled up in the trash can by the stairs. The rest of the hotel (especially the hallways and elevator - which also sounds like it's got some issues) looked very "worn out" and was disappointing considering the cost
3 - On more than one occasion I smelled what I am pretty sure was Marijuana smoke (I'm assuming I somehow ended up in a smoking area of the hotel, because the overall smoky smell was pretty strong) - but I was not expecting to smell weed being smoked.
4 - I'm pretty sure that there was prostitution going on based on some things I saw - this observation was shared with me by a student in a class I was teaching nearby - true or not, the appearance of illegitimate business being conducted at the hotel was there.
5 - One night I needed to do laundry - but had no change - no biggie, I just went to the front desk only to be told that there were not any quarters available - was asked to come back in an hour - came back in an hour - still no quarters - was told to wait another 30 minutes - not wanting to waste more time and stay up even later I just bought a bunch of candy from the machines (overpriced) and got enough change that way. Either a hotel should have change on hand at all times or offer a change machine for the laundry (which is also overpriced given the low quality of the hotel.)
I will not be staying at that location again - such a disappointment considering my generally favorable experiences with La Quinta.
I've stayed in La Quintas so often that they blur together. This one stands out for all the wrong reasons. The street noise makes sleep all but impossible. I'm exhausted and it's 1:30 am but the noise is keeping me up - like a highway is under my window. The sheets are so rough and lumpy mattress they don't help at all. The AC is adjusted by crawling under the desk. Seriously. I've only got one more night in Houston but I'm moving hotels - I need the sleep
We always stay at La Quinta because we have pets. This hotel was very clean and updated. Didn't hear much freeway noise and I'm a very light sleeper. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good. Would recommend this La Quinta.
