The La Quinta
I rate hotels based on my expectations. La Quinta Hotels are in the moderately priced chain hotel range like Comfort Inn, Days Inn, or a Best Western. We chose the La Quinta, Virginia Beach because they do not charge a fee to bring your dog (*see below). This is a nice bonus for dog owners, as many hotels do not permit pets or charge a considerable pet fee.
The room we rented had two double beds and was very average. There are mostly positives and some very minor negatives. There is no restaurant, but many within a block or two. We would stay here again if we would bring our dog to the beach again. There is a small fitness center that we did not use. It had weight stacks and a couple cardio machines. The lobby is clean, the staff friendly, and the location is okay. I've listed many of the positives and negatives, below.
There are many nice positives to the La Quinta, VA Beach. Here are a few of them:
- The entire staff was very nice, helpful, and accommodating.
- Landscaping was nicely manicured
- The pool was very clean. The pool area was also very nicely maintained.
- There is a full scale grocery store directly behind the hotel and there is no traffic overflow from their parking lot.
- Security is good. I took my dog for a very early walk (4 am) and a guard was making rounds on all floors. A recording activated when I came through the front lobby door stating that a video camera is records 24hours a day.
- Housekeeping staff was friendly and rooms were always cleaned satisfactorily.
- On our last day, we checked out, but went to the beach. The clerk suggested we use the bathroom lobby to change and clean up before our ride home, since our checkout time was well past.
- Staff & hotel was very accommodating to our dog. Several of the garbage cans around the hotel offer baggies for quick clean-up.
So minor negatives -
- During quiet hours (morning and night), other room doors on our floor slammed to where it actually woke us on several occasions.
- Crossing Pacific Ave. to go to the beach is difficult and sometimes hazardous. Many times, traffic was moving fast and carrying beach items and walking a dog made it quite an adventure.
- Our bathroom exhaust was inoperable.
- There is no balcony.
- The location of the pool is adjacent to Pacific Ave. Although there is a wall and bushes the traffic is very noisy.
- Breakfast is free, but the choices never change. After a couple days, we chose to eat out.
- There were several minor bathroom dings and cracks in the sink and tub that have been repaired. They did make for a worn bathroom appearance, however.
If you're looking for a nice, clean hotel on the Virginia Beach strip... and don't feel like paying $200+ per night, check out the La Qunita.
Just off the main strip on Pacific Ave, this hotel is with in walking distance to everything.
Having stayed at hotels in Virginia Beach before, we've learned -- they're each dirty and gross, or high-end and overly expensive.
We stayed two-nights, and they were both great. There's a continental breakfast +, indoor/outdoor pool, fitness room business center, ample parking, etc..

I found this hotel while searching the internet for pet friendly accommodations. My daughter and I each have 2 dogs and always get our own rooms but she has large rotti mix dogs and many hotels have breed/size restrictions. We love walking them on the boardwalk and having a hotel that allows us to bring them for the weekend, is right at the beach, reasonably priced and loves our dogs is great! We can't thank you enough!
Needed a last minute place to stay overnight with our dog. Much nicer than you average Pet Friendly hotels. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly ( allowed us a late checkout as we were waiting for a flight from Norfolk). Breakfast was better than most. Two blocks to VA Beach boardwalk. Would stay there again without question. Rates were very reasonable.
After our short (5 minute) stay at the Blue Marlin we drove a few blocks to the La Quinta. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us. We had a room with two double beds and a bath. The room was clean and moderately price. I even received a "Veterans" discount. The second of our two nights was a little noisy with doors being allowed to slam shut until the wee hours. I can't fault the hotel much for that. We didn't have the free breakfast. Overall the La Quinta saved our trip from being a disaster.
