"Nice Hotel"
Reviewed May 12, 2013

I was with a group so I don't know cost/value. Internet for computer worked well. Property was well kept. Breakfast was good. All the staff were very nice. Room was clean; bed was comfortable. I would certainly return to this property.
I stayed at this establishment on a recent business trip. The hotel was easy to find, and the staff were pleasant. However, the hotel itself was a disaster. It was cold when I checked in, and so when I went to the room, I tried to adjust the temperature. The thermostat on the wall was dark, as if there were no power to it. I called the front desk, and they sent a maintenance person, who came up promptly. He discovered that the thermostat/heating-and-cooling unit was unplugged. When I apologized for wasting his time, he said that "they do that to keep the hotel from burning down". I thought that was a bit odd, but didn't worry about it. It was late, so I adjusted the now-working thermostat to a warmer temperature and went to bed. I was awakened a short time later by a choking atmosphere and strong smell of smoke. I immediately turned on the lights, and found that the smoke and fumes were pouring from the heating-and-cooling unit! I turned it off using the thermostat, and then unplugged it from the wall for good measure. I was unable to open the window in the room to air it out, so I turned on the ventilation fan in the bathroom and opened the outer door, and hoped for the best. I called down to the front desk, but they were unable to move me to a different room, or explain to me why they had put me in a room with a clearly defective and dangerous unit.
As if that were not enough, there was also no hot water in the hotel. The entire hotel. From the time that I checked in through the next morning when I checked out, the hotel had a problem with the water heater, and the water was ice cold. The night before the water had been tepid, but I was so tired I didn't worry about it and just went to bed. In the morning, however, I did want to shower before my day of meetings, but it was not possible. I called down to the desk, and was told that the entire hotel was out of water, but if I wanted to, I could go *across the street* and take a shower at another hotel. Excuse me?!? I have no idea how they intended to manage this - if they had 200 empty rooms at a hotel across the street and were going to check each of us into one to shower, and then check us back out, or (horrifying to contemplate) if they were going to line us up one after another to shower in one or two rooms. Ugh! Obviously, I chose a cold sponge bath in my room. This added to my discontent, after the terrible choking fumes incident, coupled with the extremely loud drunk people going in and out of two rooms near mine for almost an hour at about 3am. I barely slept at all.
I discussed the inconveniences and difficulties of my stay with the manager on duty when I checked out, but he was unable to offer me any discount or restitution for my horrible experience because I had booked the trip through a third party (cheaptickets.com). Other patrons were given money back or a voucher. I do not see why they could not have given a voucher no matter WHO I had reserved the room through, as it was me that experienced the horrible stay, not the travel company. This experience definitely sullied my opinion of the LaQuinta chain, and I will probably never stay at one again.
Had never stayed at a La Quinta Inn. Compared to the hotel we stayed at on the way down to Asheville, the $18 more we paid here seemed like $50 or $75 more!
Location, size of room, cleanliness and comfort were all noticeable and appreciated. Late check-in was a breeze.
Breakfast was adequate not great but it was what it was.
Excellent value. Quality of the stay is much greater than the price. Did not feel like we were staying at a cheap place. It is recommended and will stay there again. The staff was friendly and eager to help. The room was quiet and the bed comfortable.
I have stayed at this hotel about four times in the last few months and absolutely love the value, cleanliness, location, and ease of reservation/checkout. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in this area!
