Whilst there were some difficulties at this hotel when we stayed there in March 2014 (noisy neighbours, keys that didn't work, first assigned to a smoke-filled room), it was very convenient to the shopping centre. The breakfast was included and was good. The price was right. Despite the issues I would stay there again.
I've never experienced any problems in the 4yrs I've stayed here that's why I keep coming back. Very surprised with its updated breakfast and happy that its hours were extended. Love the TEXAS waffle machine.
As mentioned in most reviews, the hotel is very conveniently located and is within walking distance of pretty much everything. The hotel itself is nothing to rave about, just a good, clean, decent hotel. Yes, it's a bit dated and I stayed on the third floor...the hallway leading to the rooms has a slope...I am not sure how to describe it cause I've never seen anything similar, but the floor on the hallway is clearly very steeply tilted! Nothing to complain it just seemed odd. They didn't have a phone in my room, which again, I don't use, but found it odd.
About 99% of the people staying there are Mexican, just keep that in mind. The complimentary breakfast can get crowded...most of the people who stay here are families who come shopping to the McAllen area.
Other than that, you will get the usual "La Quinta" room...Two beds, a bathroom and nothing much. (I've read some of their rooms have fridges, mine didn't)
First of all I should say that this is a hotel that is has one of the greatest locations! Everything - and I mean, everything - is within walking distance. Eateries, Coffee shops, HEB grocery store, etc.
90% of the travelers at this hotel are from Mexico and are here to shop and visit the US. Generally a very friendly and laid-back family oriented people.
This is an older property, so the struggle to maintain it probably get's tougher.
Overall - I would want to stay here again, just not so sure even my love of the location justify's even the discounted rate I paid.
- Location which is the best.
- Staff at the front desk - most of them seem like they are there to serve you.
- Overall room cleanliness is severely lacking. The grout in the bathroom floor hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Very dirty.
- The king size bed sucked so bad I woke up with a sore back the first night. I was in Room 130, I think I remember reading this same complaint for the same room when I reviewed this hotel prior to booking?
- Breakfast is super-crowded with all of the families. Attendant was really working hard to keep up!!
- Standing water by the ice machine - not only a safety issue but a health one as well?
- Compared to most rooms that I stay in at La Quinta's (as a Returns Club Member) - the frig is a super small one. My particular fridge froze up and I lost about $25 dollars in food and beverages that either exploded or were ruined. Mentioned it to the clerk upon checking out, and she either wasn't trained in how to deal with my issue or didn't care.
Overall nice place to stay! I enjoyed the home-like feeling and cleanliness of the room. however, since I was traveling alone with 2 large 50lb bags it was rather difficult for me to get from the lobby all the way to my room. Willingly helpful staff would have been a blessing, hopefully I will have better luck next time. Also if there was an atm in the lobby I would have been able to take advantage of the vending machines provided at the hotel.
